Getting started with Lesson Study

Originating in Japan, lesson study is recognised with bringing about marked advances in teaching and ongoing teacher development through collaborative professional learning communities. Lesson study is a continuing professional development process that engages teachers in reflective and collaborative inquiry. Through lesson study, teachers become deeply engaged in student thinking through ongoing collaborative lesson planning that aims to create high-quality classroom practices. Lesson study does not focus on the teacher, but on how lesson planning supports student learning. As a continuing professional development model, the aim of lesson study is that of creating a collaborative culture of teaching.
